I am trying to make my small website work better, but I always get lost in what exactly needs to be fixed first. Some people say the main thing is loading speed, others say it is structure or text quality. I feel like I am guessing all the time. How do you understand what to improve when there are too many things to check at once?

I think it becomes easier when you get a clear breakdown of the issues, and a seo checker can really help with that, you can try it here pr-cy.io. It shows missing elements, slow pages, problems with titles or descriptions, and then you can solve them step by step. This way you are not fixing everything blindly, but working with a list of priorities, which makes the process more organized and less stressful.
