To celebrate the October release of Nick Hornby’s next novel ‘Slam’, a nationwide competition has been launched for 13-25 year olds to design a poster responding to the brief Who’s Your Hero? You can enter the Slam ‘bedroom icon’ poster design challenge, by submitting an artistic response to your hero or heroine, be it a sex symbol, pop idol, fashion icon, rock god, sports hero, movie legend, thinker, leader or rebel. Winning entries form an online and real-world exhibition and the winning entry is produced as a signed exclusive print run of posters, which can only be obtained via a prize draw with purchase of stickered copies of Slam when it hits the shelves.

Slam stars Sam, a 16 year-old skater whose girlfriend gets pregnant and his whole world flips upside down. He turns to his idol for advice, skate legend Tony Hawk, talking to him through the poster on his bedroom wall.
Entrants can submit their designs either by post or via [email address hidden]. Penguin have also commissioned a series of contemporary artists, designers and photographers who will be exhibiting their Who’s Your Hero posters.

Short listed entries and a selection of the best will form a physical exhibition at London’s Design Museum, which will run from 29 Oct for 6-8 weeks. The winner will be announced on Spinebreakers on 4 Oct.
